Beverly W. Todd puts up a list of his property as collateral for his debt which includes three enslaved people: a woman named Sarah (aged about 29, “dark complexion”), her daughter Milly (aged about 8) and a woman named Emily (aged about 45, “copper complexion”) along with the furniture and goods for the tavern “Nebrack Horse” to trustee Samuel D. Lucas. The deed contains conditions for repayment of the debt totalling about $2,700. Parties of the third part are listed as W. M. Thomas, John B. Slaughter, Jesse Hockaday, John F. Norrie, Samuel H. Woodson, and Lewis Jones.
