Female Enslavers Inheritance Marriage

View PDF Record

Description

After the death of Amilda H. Hudson’s late husband John W. Hudson, Amilda’s new husband Amos F. Garrison seeks to secure Amilda’s rights to the enslaved people owned by John W. Hudson upon his death via her right by inheritance and his right via marriage. Garrison authorizes John B. Hanelson as trustee on behalf of his wife and renouces his own claim in favor of his wife’s. There are no specific details about the enslaved people listed, just that John W. Hudson was “the owner at the time of his death of a number of slaves, a large number of which said slaves as well as some others born since” were left undivided after his death.
