Robert S. Russell of Calloway County deeded two enslaved people, Patty and Joseph, to Thomas M. Allen of Bates County for the benefit of Tabitha Long and her heirs. Tabitha and Robert Long are asking the court for permission to sell Patty in order to purchase a “comfortable” home, and to keep Joseph to cultivate a farm at the home. Patty is described as a a 20 year old woman who had been hired to Robert Long, and Joseph as a 16 year old mulatto.
