Provost Marshall: Thomas Johnson
Jackson County MO
September 9, 1861
Description
Thomas Johnson alleges that US soldiers arrested him and his sons, and stole a significant amount of personal property and provisions. This includes an enslaved family of a man, woman, and five children, who Johnson claims he had given “permission to do as they pleased about going away from me or staying with me” although he still acknowledges that they “belonged” to him.
