General Conduct

Guests are expected to behave in a respectful manner toward staff, volunteers, other visitors, the historic houses, and all museum property. Disruptive, unsafe, disrespectful, or inappropriate behavior may result in a warning, removal from the premises, or denial of future admission.

Respect for the Museums

Guests must not touch, lean on, move, or damage artifacts, exhibits, furnishings, displays, ropes, barriers, or any other museum property unless specifically invited to do so by staff. Guests must stay within designated visitor areas and follow all posted signs and verbal instructions.

Courtesy to Others

Guests should keep voices at a courteous level and avoid behavior that interferes with the experience of others. Running, rough play, shouting, horseplay, and other disruptive conduct are not permitted.

Prohibited Behavior

The following behaviors are not allowed on museum property:

  • Harassment, discrimination, threatening behavior, or physical altercations.
  • Smoking, vaping, or use of tobacco products in prohibited areas.

  • Use of illegal drugs.
  • Solicitation, distribution of materials, political activity, or unauthorized commercial activity.
  • Use of weapons or any item that may pose a safety risk.
  • Damage to, removal of, or misuse of museum property.

Children and Supervision

Children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. Adults are responsible for the behavior and safety of children in their care during museum visits and programs.

Staff Authority

Museum staff and volunteers are authorized to enforce this policy. Guests who refuse to comply with staff instructions will be asked to leave without refund.

Safety

Guests should use caution on stairs, uneven walkways, narrow passageways, low ceilings, and other conditions typical of historic properties. Guests are responsible for watching their surroundings and following staff instructions while on museum property. The Museums are not responsible for guest injury on the property.

By registering for a walking tour, you agree to the policy below.

Minimum Registration

Walking tours require a minimum of 5 registered participants to run. If fewer than 5 people are registered 24 hours in advance of the tour, the tour may be canceled, rescheduled, or combined with another tour date at the discretion of the Wornall/Majors House Museums.

Weather-Related Cancellations

These conditions include, but are not limited to, flood warnings, lightning, extreme heat, extreme cold, high winds, heavy rain, snow, ice, or any other weather or route condition that may make the tour unsafe.

Museum-Canceled Tours

  • the option to transfer the registration to a rescheduled tour date, if one is offered.

Guests are responsible for checking the weather forecast, dressing appropriately for outdoor conditions, and arriving at the correct tour location on time. No refunds will be issued for guests who miss the tour, arrive late, choose not to attend when the tour has not been canceled by the Museums, or go to the wrong location.

Route and Program Changes

The Museums reserve the right to adjust the tour route, shorten the program, or modify the format of the tour when conditions warrant, including but not limited to heat, rain, construction, or temporary site access issues.
